Search for a mouse jiggler online and you get a wall of websites promising to keep your computer active without installing a thing. Open the tab, press the big green button, watch a little cursor drift around the page. Done, apparently.
The pitch lands because downloads are a faff. Maybe you're on a locked-down work laptop with no admin rights. Maybe IT would have questions about a random .exe. A website skips all of that, works on anything with a browser, and leaves no trace when you close the tab. And to be fair to these sites, they do something real. Just not the thing most people arrive hoping for.

Two things, honestly.
First, the useful one: a tab can stop your screen going to sleep. Browsers ship something called the Screen Wake Lock API, which lets a page ask the system to keep the display on while that tab is visible.
