Green Dotter is built to stay out of your business. Here's exactly what it does and doesn't touch.

The short version

There are two different things to talk about here, and they behave differently. The desktop app runs entirely on your own computer: no account, no message content, no files, no screen capture. This website is an ordinary marketing site, and like most of them it uses third-party analytics and advertising measurement tools that set cookies and process your IP address.

Using the app does not require using the website, and nothing links your app usage to your website visit.

The desktop app

Green Dotter simulates mouse clicks and movement inside an area you define. That is all it does. It does not read your messages, access your files, record your screen, or log keystrokes.

It sends anonymous, session-level product analytics to PostHog (EU region): app launches, when a session starts and ends, which mode you used, and basic technical facts like operating system version and app version. Events are attached to a random identifier generated on your machine — not to your name, email, IP-derived identity, or any account.

If analytics cannot be reached, the app carries on working normally.

This website

The website uses the following third-party services. Each one receives your IP address and browser user-agent as an unavoidable part of the request, and most set cookies or use local storage in your browser.

ServicePurposeWhat it receives
Google Analytics 4
Google Ireland Ltd
Audience and traffic measurementPages viewed, referrer, approximate location from IP, device and browser, a randomly generated visitor ID stored in a cookie
Contentsquare

Reddit Pixel
Reddit, Inc.
Measuring whether Reddit advertising leads to downloadsPage views and download clicks, a Reddit click identifier if you arrived from a Reddit ad, and your IP address and user-agent
Microsoft Advertising UET
Microsoft Ireland Operations Ltd
Measuring whether Microsoft/Bing advertising leads to downloadsPage views and download clicks, plus the same device and browser details

Download clicks are also sent to Reddit server-to-server through Reddit's Conversions API. That transmission includes your IP address and user-agent, and the Reddit click identifier when one is present. It carries no name, email address or account details.

To be plain about it: an IP address and a cookie identifier count as personal data under UK and EU law, even though they do not tell us who you are. We do not attempt to identify you from them, we do not sell or share this data for its own sake, and we hold no separate copy of it ourselves — it lives inside each provider's platform, under that provider's retention settings.

Cookies and local storage

The site sets cookies for the analytics and advertising measurement described above. It also uses your browser's local storage for two small values: the language you last chose (gd_lang), and which variant of a page-headline test you were shown (gd_lede_variant), so the page stays consistent between visits. Neither leaves your browser.

There is no login, no user account, no newsletter, no comments, and no payment processing on this site. Nothing asks you for personal details.

Permissions

On Mac, Green Dotter needs macOS Accessibility permission so it can perform clicks. This is Apple's standard requirement for any app that automates mouse or keyboard input. You grant it consciously, you can see it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, and you can revoke it at any time.

Your control

In the app. You choose the click area, the timing, and the stop conditions. You can stop a session instantly with F8 or ⌘⇧.. Uninstalling the app removes it completely.

On the website. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, which stops the services above from recognising a returning visitor. Browser tracking protection, an ad blocker, or private browsing will all block some or all of these scripts, and the site works normally without them. You can also install Google's opt-out add-on for Google Analytics specifically.

Your rights. If you are in the UK or EU you have the right to ask what is held about you, to have it deleted, and to object to it being processed. Because we hold no account and no directly identifying information, the practical route is usually to ask the relevant provider, but get in touch and we will help where we can.

Questions

Green Dotter is made and run by one person, not a company. If you have a privacy question or want to exercise any of the rights above, get in touch via the contact page.
